My favorite ab workout

Here's my favorite ab workout.  Try this one and you will really feel it work!

Sit with your feet on the floor, knees bent.  Sit back at a 45 degree angle.  Then hold a 5 to 10 lb weight and start holding weight in front of you holding it with both hands and arms straight, then move the weight towards the ground on your left side, come back to center, move the weight to the right side.  Repeat for 15 times on each side.  Once you have finished your first set of 15 on both sides, I do 35 crunches, then repeat the previous workout.  I do each for 3 sets.

Whole Grain vs. Whole Wheat

A lot of people seem to think that whole wheat bread is healthier than white bread.  Those people are in fact wrong!  Whole wheat uses some wheat in their product but they still use white flour.  White flour has absolutely no use in your body other than to raise your blood sugar.  When you are looking for an option better than white bread, look at the whole grains.  Whole grains are much better for you.  They don't use white flour.  The whole grains are also better for your heart and are higher in fiber.  When something is higher in fiber it will keep your fuller longer and you won't get that drop in blood sugar once the food is digested like you do when you eat white bread.  Start checking things in your pantry other than your breads.  Look at pastas, cereal, etc.  Those things also come in whole grains.  Make the right choice for your health and choose whole grains not whole wheat.

Freezing food for later use

I have recently started freezing healthy food like fruits and veggies so that I can use them later.  Especially when I can get a good deal on them.  Recently I bought 4 dozen ears of corn from a friend.  I was instructed on how to keep it for the winter by this friend, which was great advice.  You will take the outside of the corn off, then boil it on your stove top for approximately 10 to 15 minutes or until the corn has changed to a darker color than the uncooked corn and becomes softer than the uncooked corn.  You will then cut the corn off of the cob and place it into freezer bags.  I make sure I have enough servings in 1 bag so that all I have to do is grab 1 bag out of the freezer for 1 meal.  Then once the corn is in the bag, I let it cool for 2 to 4 hours depending on how much corn you put into the bag.  Then you will be able to put it in the freezer for later use.  When you go to use the frozen corn, place a small amount of water in a pan, put the frozen corn in the pan and boil until corn is hot, then it's ready to eat!

Fruit---This is my favorite topic!  I bought lots of strawberries and bananas at the store this week because I got a great deal on them.  I know that I will, in no way, use this much in a week before they go bad.  So, I placed 1 banana in a freezer bag, and about 8 strawberries in another freezer bag.  Then when I go to make smoothies all I will have to do is throw 1 bag with banana and 1 bag with strawberries into my blender to make my smoothie.  This works with most fruits.  You may want to cut up your peaches, mangoes, etc first, they are much harder to cut up when they are frozen.  See my smoothie recipe to make a great smoothie with your now frozen fruit.

Healthy Smoothie Recipe....YUM!

I recently came up with my own recipe for a very healthy smoothie, you can change out fruits for others, it's fun and healthy!

Orange Mango Smoothie
1 orange
1 mango
Several strawberries
1 banana
Protein powder of your choice
Small amount of vanilla almond milk
Small amount of ice
Place in the blender and blend until smooth....Pour into glass, add a straw and enjoy!

Back from Vacation

I am back from our vacation.  Had an amazing time with the family.  I'm not ready to go back to work, but I'm so ready to get back to the gym and back to eating healthy again!  As soon as we got home, I got the laundry into the washing machine and unpacked everything.  That really helped save me time and stress from having all of that stuff needing to be done.  Now, when I get off of work tomorrow, I will be at the gym, then home to vacuum the house, and make dinner.  Hope you all can meet me at the Up and Running Store on State Route 48 in Centerville by Dorothy Lane Market Thursday morning at 6:30am to have an amazing workout and healthy snacks afterwards!  Hope you all have a great week!

Farmers Markets

If you want to eat healthy during the summer, it is much easier!  Go to your local farmer's market and pick up fresh fruits and veggies!  They taste so much better and it's fun to go and pick out what is fresh, plus you are helping out local farmers.  I go to the farmer's market every Saturday morning.  I either go to the Shiloh Church on Main at Philadelphia in Dayton, Ohio, or I go to the Farmer's Market on Indian Ripple at County Line Road in front of the Kmart in Beavercreek, Ohio.  You can search the internet to find a local farmer's market near you, it's well worth it!  Good prices and very fresh food!

Busy schedule, no time to do anything? Think Again!

Believe it or not, I actually work full time, take care of all of the duties and errands at the house, and manage to workout at least 4 to 5 days per week.  I have lost 50 lbs in the last 4 years.  You wonder, how does she do it?

I get up early, between 7 and 8am, and start my day.  I go to the gym for about an hour, then when I come home, instead of just sitting on the couch, I make myself work.  I find things in the house that need cleaned especially the bathrooms and kitchen.  I start one room at a time so that I finish one project before starting another.  I usually pick one to two rooms per day that I want to clean so that it only takes about an hour.  Then, I still have time to get ready for work.    In between cleaning and working out, I manage to get online and look for coupons and sales.  I have really learned how to save some serious money with couponing.  I will post more about that later.  Hope you all have a very productive day!
